As of 2019, about 160,000 people resided here, some of which attend California State University East Bay, Chabot College, and Life Chiropractic College West. Hayward is supported by a varied economy, including high-tech companies and manufacturing facilities, and the Southland Mall is the city’s largest shopping center.
